I have trained extensively in Functional Medicine and am one of only 25 fully certified IFM practitioners in the UK. Functional Medicine is a holistic and science-led approach which treats each person individually, focusing on the underlying factors that are causing and fuelling your symptoms or condition. The guiding principle is getting to the root cause of health issues and thereby restore the body to optimal health and wellness.
The way that I work with clients differs considerably from the conventional model. Somewhat like a health detective, I will gather clues from your past, conduct thorough testing and scientific research to unlock your true vitality. The key to this is the development of a personalised plan which includes nutritional advice, botanical medicines, supplements, specialised dietary programs such as gut healing, weight-loss or tailored elimination diets, stress-management techniques and exercise advice.
In Functional Medicine, there's no one-size-fits-all treatment so even if you and a friend have the same symptoms or condition you won't get the same treatment plan because your journeys have been entirely different and unique.
It takes time to find root causes, conduct testing and research and connect all the dots to best optimise your health. In this type of work I cannot truly help you in 1 to 2 sessions. It's rather like committing to increase your fitness in order to run a marathon; a one off session at the gym or going to a class every once in while isn't going to achieve your goal of completing that marathon.
After years practicing in this way and due to the nature of the cases I take on, I mainly offer Consultation Packages as a way of working with me over a period of time. This is likely to be quite different to other nutritionists or practitioner's you have worked with that offer individual appointments.
Why I offer Consultation Packages
There is not just one event that causes poor health, but instead, a series of events has to line up to create the ‘perfect storm’ for developing a condition or a set group of symptoms. These series of events, in functional medicine are called triggers or root causes, such as an infection, a highly stressful event, grief, a protein such as gluten, medication, poor oxygen delivery in the form of anaemia or an environmental toxins such as mercury. All can, and do cause a biological response within the body which impacts upon a gland an organ or an entire system (gastrointestinal, endocrine, immune, structural, cardiovascular and so on).
To facilitate this level of change takes time, dedication and commitment from both sides (you the patient and me as your guide) and therefore a package structure provides this framework for both of us.
Working in this way allows me to truly focus on your case and allows the time to deep dive into all the aspects that can be impacting your health. I schedule in time before and after each appointment with you to prepare, which includes researching the medical literature, analysing lab test results in relation to your case history, and redefining your dietary and supplemental plan. Instead of filling my diary with individual back to back appointments, it also means that committing to a package ensures that all this time outside of the consultation time is reserved in my diary for you!
To be able to truly provide the support people need on their journey to improved and optimal health I passionately believe this is the best way.
If you feel you are ready to become a new client, I ask you to complete an Appointment Request Form and tell me about your health concerns. This is to ensure that you are a good medical fit and that your health goals are the right match for my practice. Please visit the Become a New Client section to complete this form.
