Functional Gastrointestinal Masterclass & Practicum

Learn mechanisms, GI focused physical exam skills, appropriate functional testing and practical applications for understanding, assessing and “treating” gastrointestinal dysfunction.

A 2-day specialist training course for nutritionists, naturopaths, final year students and health professionals, taking a whole-systems approach to evaluating and “treating” not only local gastrointestinal conditions but many systemic dis-eases that are linked to GI dysfunction from a Functional Medicine & Systematic Kinesiology perspective. Delivered by two highly experienced practitioner’s.

Following many years in practice seeing clients and attending a number of what she terms “practice changing” advanced educational lectures and events, Tanya wants to share this knowledge with fellow practitioner’s to encourage a more critical thinking approach rather than chasing or following outdated ”protocols” such as the 5 R program.

We will discuss the appropriate clinical connections that must be made, how to examine a patient with gastrointestinal disorders, the important laboratory evaluations to be considered (not just stool testing) and the treatment approaches that should be used.

Both days (9.30am-5pm) are divided into two parts: The Masterclass and The Practicum.

Part 1 - The Masterclass by Tanya Borowski

Tanya will share her clinical knowledge gained through IFM certification, her own clinical practice and many advanced GI focused postgraduate education events with The Kharrizian Institute, IFM, The SIBO Doctor- Dr Nirala Jacobi, Dr Steven Sandberg-Lewis and many SIBO symposiums.

Key learning objectives for you are:

  • Recognize and address the most important antecedents and triggers of gastrointestinal dysfunction.

  • How to clinically identify digestive imbalances within the stomach, gallbladder, small intestine, and large intestine.

  • Understand the relationships between the gut and the brain, the immune system and other systems of the body.

  • Understand the role of mucosal health and oral tolerance and then apply the 6 steps to restore this crucial element in the gut-immune system.

  • Review the underlying factors to autoimmune inflammation, and how environmental triggers can influence immune tolerance and autoimmunity.

  • Discuss and explain the role of Gallbladder and bile salts ,an often overlooked mechanism that can result in chronic GI issues

  • Explain the interaction of the gut mucosal system and its role in immune regulation.

  • The Microbiome and it’s specific applications to Clinical Practice.

  • A walk through the most important lab testing & learn laboratory markers other than stool and SIBO testing to assess the gastrointestinal status.

  • Learn diet, nutrition and lifestyle approaches to support brain-gut axis dysfunction.

  • Discuss food and lifestyle advice for clients on modulating the immune system.

  • Invivo Healthcare will be attending on the Saturday -  showcasing the groundbreaking new microbiome panels from PHYLO BIOSCIENCE™

Part 2 - The Practicum by Dawn Bailey

Kinesiology works from the perspective that different muscles relate to different organs and systems of the body. Working with the Muscle testing element of Kinesiology, allows us to find which specific supplements are required at any given time and which supplements are a priority for each individual client.

You will learn how to:

  • Muscle test with accuracy and for specific muscles closely linked to the digestive system including the stomach, small intestine, liver, gallbladder, pancreas and colon.

  • Muscle test for imbalances with stomach acid & pancreatic enzymes

  • Muscle test for liver/gall bladder weakness

  • Muscle test for small and large intestine weakness

  • Learn how to test and balance a subclinical tendency for a Hiatal Hernia

  • Test for an imbalance with The Ileocecal Valve which plays a huge part in gastrointestinal and many other health issues

  • Test which supplements are a “priority” for each individual client

  • Test for dehydration status

  • Learn how to identify a 'defacilitated' muscle response for an organ and “check” your assessment
