Chronic Pain & Fatigue: Causes and Functional Approaches Masterclass

This Masterclass for healthcare practitioners, curated by Tanya Borowski, Certified Functional Medicine practitioner and Immunologist Dr. Jenna Macciochi has been designed to help practitioners master the functional concepts of the immune system in the context of Chronic Fatigue (CFS), pain & associated conditions such as Fibromyalgia. With a specific focus on functional clinical applications.

Part 1

Dr Jenna gets up close and personal with our immune system.Specifically and clearly, this first part of the day covers both the essential components of Immunology from basic science perspectives; how it works, where it is built and explores inflammation and immune dysfunction as common mechanisms in many chronic disorders, such as autoimmunity, pain, allergy, and CFS.

Part 2

Many conditions can result in fatigue and pain yet after certain fundamentals have been ruled in or out, at the core is mitochondrial dysfunction. Once initiated by a set of triggers, mitochondrial dysfunction becomes a self-perpetuating and progressive vicious cycle.

In the second session of the day Tanya will present initially on how to evaluate a complete blood count and  comprehensive metabolic blood chemistry with a special focus on blood glucose; red blood cells, immune and thyroid.  Teaching how identifying patterns of sub-optimal function can be the root cause of fatigue.

She will then progress on to assessing and addressing the more commonly appreciated causes of the vicious cycle of mitochondrial dysfunction: Vitamin and mineral deficiencies clearly and commonly cause mitochondrial dysfunction. Many pharmaceutical drugs and toxic environmental chemicals are also mitochondrial poisons and Metabolic toxins produced by endogenous bacteria within the gastrointestinal tract also cause mitochondria dysfunction. All will be presented within the context of using functional applications.

Key learning objectives:

  • Review the underlying factors to inflammation, and how environmental triggers can influence immune tolerance

  • Discuss the interaction between LPS - endotoxin and the immune system

  • Explain the interaction of the gut mucosal system and its role in immune regulation

  • Discuss the role of T-Reg cells and how they influence the balance of the immune response

  • Walk delegates through the most important standard lab testing, and how to glean detailed information form a Comprehensive Metabolic Blood Chemistry & Complete Blood Count from a patterns analysis vs single tests

  • Understand what are the main contributors to sustained & chronic inflammation

  • Nutritional immunomodulation - Discuss food and lifestyle advice for clients on modulating the immune system

  • Clinical jewels and insights

To allow the day to be interactive and dynamic, we keep number to a maximum of 45 and anticipate spaces to sell fast. As with all our Masterclasses, this day is packed full of clinical jewels and insights - a day not to be missed!

Previous Event feedback:

“We were given so much information both during the talk and to take away. The number of attendees was perfect as everyone felt comfortable to ask questions if needs be. Thank you.”

“I loved the way that you both shared experiences of working with cases which brought the information to life. Also the generosity in the information and diet plans you shared. It really felt like you had gone out there, done all the work and gathered information from all the best research and experience and then shared it all. Really couldn't have hoped for more.”
